Sometimes, on very very special occasions, some lucky and brave people get to spend the night at the Bran castle in Romania, also known as Dracula’s Transylvanian Castle.
On 2016’s Halloween, there is such an occasion. Airbnb has announced that the company has launched a contest for tourists who want a really spooky experience on the scariest night of the year.
Dracula’s Transylvanian Castle is located in the heart of the Carpathian mountains in Romania and, even though the Romanian people know it as the Bran Castle, the Dracula’s legacy story stuck once Bram Stocker described the infamous castle as the home of the most known vampire in literature.
You can read more about it here:
And even though it might not truly be Vlad the Impaler’s residence, it has seen its share of blood and medieval wars.
Anybody can enter the Airbnb contest as the task to sign in the competition is to send a short message about what would you do if you came face to face with count Dracula himself.
Arriving at Dracula’s Transylvanian Castle following the footsteps of Jonathan Harker
The winners will be invited to recreate the story of Stoker’s protagonist Jonathan Harker, arriving at their destination by horse-drawn carriage before dining on a “blood-enriching meal” and bedding down for the night in “luxurious velvet trimmed Dracula coffins”. Winners will be flown in from anywhere in the world.
The guests will be hosted by Dacre Stoker, the Irish author’s great nephew who is, according to Airbnb, “a well-respected vampire expert and passionate advocate of his great uncle’s novel.”
The lucky guests will have to follow a set of important rules as they arrive at the castle for the one night stay. They will be banned to have garlic on them, silver jewels and holy symbols. Moreo0ver, they will be adviced to keep the curtains closed at all times and to cover the mirrors.
